This system was built to power a Dometic RTX-2000 air conditoning unit for the canopy shell of a Dodge Ram. The key constraints were dimensions, specifically height no more than 9″. This page documents the wiring diagram(s) and outlines which connections need to be made to incorporate solar charging, alternator charging, etc. The RTX-2000 air conditioner uses 19-58 amps, this system is scaled to be able to handle twice that load to allow for connection of additional accessories, lighting, etc.
The System Specifications
- 2x 100AH Renogy Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery
- Renogy DCC50S 50-Amp DC-DC Alternator Charger with MPPT Solar Charge Controller
- 200 amp ANL fuse for protection of system.
- Household-style circuit breakers for solar, alternator, charger, and DC load panel.
- 2GA Interconnect wiring, 4GA busbar wiring, 8GA wiring elsewhere.

How to connect a solar panel to your system
- Remove the 4 Phillips screws holding the circuit breaker box faceplate on.
- Insert the Positive wire from the solar panel into the terminal labeled “1” in the photo below and tighten the Phillips screw.
- Attach the negative wire from the solar panel to the negative bus bar by removing the cover (held on by two black plastic acorn nuts). It’s OK to stack terminals here.
How to connect your starter battery to your system (for alternator charging)
- Remove the 4 Phillips screws holding the circuit breaker box faceplate on.
- Insert the Positive wire from the starter battery into the terminal labeled “2” in the photo below and tighten the Phillips screw.
- Remove the two black plastic nuts holding the bus bar cover on.
- Attach a cable from the negative post of the starter battery (or grounded to the truck’s chassis) to the negative bus bar, pictured below. It’s OK to stack terminals here if needed.
Connecting your Dometic air conditioner
The wiring from the air conditioner should be at least 8 gauge. Connect the red wire to the 120a circuit breaker’s “LOAD” post by removing the 10mm nut, as seen below:
- Connect the negative cable from the air conditioner directly to the negative bus bar by removing the 2 acorn nuts holding on the cover and securing it with a ring terminal. It is OK to stack terminals on this bus bar.
Connecting miscellaneous devices / lighting / etc.
Other than your air conditioner, all of your DC loads like lighting, charging outlets, etc. can be connected directly to the DC fuse block. Remove the plastic cover by squeezing either side and insert an appropriate fuse in the slot. There are 6 circuits available. Connect your device’s positive to one of the left or right side terminals, and connect your devices negative to any of the 6 negative posts along the bottom. See image below.
How to connect your phone to the Renogy Bluetooth Hub system
Download “Renogy DC Home” from the Apple or Google Play store. Upon launching, you’ll be prompted to create an account. Once you’ve done this, your screen should appear like below, prompting you to add your first device. Tap the “+” in the top right.
The following should appear: “Battery List (2)”. Press “Confirm”
